That intersection is up there with the worst of the worst.

Lincoln Ave/Bay Street has a traffic light, you may be thinking of St Charles needing a light or a stop sign.

Lincoln & Sherman have a light, not Bay.

My three children and I were almost hit at this crosswalk this afternoon. We started crossing while the Sherman and Lincoln light was still red, and even though we were halfway through the intersection a car nearly ran us down. I held my children back and waved my arms and the driver still plowed through the intersection. More people will get hurt if the city doesn’t act. The landscaping in the median also makes it more difficult to see folks crossing.

Yes, the median landscaping looks night but not feasible for field of vision. It’s too high and overgrown.

Thank you for reporting your concerns about street safety in Alameda. In April 2023, the City Council endorsed a design concept for the Lincoln/Marshall/Pacific Avenue Safety Improvement Project, which will include major improvements for three miles of this high injury corridor from Alameda Point at Pacific/Central/Main to the East End at Lincoln/Broadway. This concept includes design changes that are proven to reduce speeds and improve pedestrian safety at crossings. The City/consultant team has completed 25 percent design drawings and submitted a grant application for $20 million to fund the corridor improvements.
