People are pretty bad about parking in those lanes too, although Raleigh PD must be ticketing more. I haven't seen quite so many people abusing the bike lane in that way.
We are in the midst of our first pass through the City collecting leaves. Hopefully these piles will be gone soon. It will probably take more time to try to enforce the rule of keeping the leaves behind the curb than it will to actually pick them up, so I will ask our Streets Division to see if they can get to the bike lanes ASAP.
Thank you for your response - as we are aware that this is a huge concern throughout the city, and more education needs to be implemented, i am sure many people would've very appreciative if the streets division could make a pass in the next day or so. I believe a large charity run will be happening along this section on Thursday morning. Happy thanksgiving!
We will do what we can. I'm afraid it's very difficult to divert the crews from the routes they are already on - other people are counting on us to keep to the schedule we have posted because they have planned neighborhood events, etc. Every year about 70% of the population does a pretty good job of putting leaves out a few days ahead of our crews and keeping fairly well to the "keep the piles on top of the curb" policy, and about 30% do not, either putting them out way early or sweeping into the street. We really have no "enforcement" program to speak of here, we just keep trying to get the message out. It has been very hard to break into that 30%, though. We'll continue to try to refine the program and policy. Next year we will try to build the bike routes into the route schedule a little more carefully. Thanks for your understanding! Happy Thanksgiving to you, also!!
