There are also several propane tanks being stored in the bed of this truck. The truck has been parked on the street for nearly three weeks now without being moved. Water continues to collect in the pool in the bed of the truck. Now that Zika has been transmitted by mosquitoes in Florida, it seems this should be a high priority!

DTR Neighbor. Zika is in Flordia, over 700 miles away. Mosquitoes don't travel that far. While having standing water in this truck and the countless other areas in each neighborhood in Raleigh is a nuisance we doubt that bringing Zika into the conversation is helpful.

I'm sure we're all comforted by your overwhelming knowledge of how infectious diseases can expand their territory. However, I think the people of Florida would beg to disagree that when Zika has only previously been reported hundreds of miles away there would be NO CHANCE of spread to previously unaffected areas.

City of Raleigh 4, you do realize that mosquitoes pick up diseases from humans, right? And in our modern world, humans can and do travel vast distances in a matter of mere hours, bringing risks to areas that otherwise wouldn't be in the danger zone. Mosquitoes are vectors for plenty of other diseases, too (that they pick up from people). Why allow a vector for disease to proliferate if it can be avoided? I used to live in south Florida (so I'm well aware of how far away it is), and an abandoned vehicle with a pool in it left for a month on a public street during mosquito season would be a priority to the city and the county, even years before Zika or West Nile came on the scene in the US. No chastising of concerned citizens for for being concerned about it, either.

In any case, thanks to the people who actually got this taken care of. The neighborhood appreciates it.
