Attaching a photo. As you can see, it is well into the road, and in fact exactly where one's wheels will go. One of these days a motorcycle or scooter rider will hit this and be killed by oncoming traffic. This is a high speed ramp and merge with traffic on both sides coming down off the freeway.
This photo shows more context. Note that the traffic coming down the ramp on the right is likely to hit the pothole, lose control, and go sliding right into the traffic coming down the ramp on the left side of the picture. Both sides are high speed ramps.
This photo shows that the depth of the holes are such that the substructure of the road itself is being destroyed. Note that the first hole on the right is not a gradual dip, but a sudden and steep sided (and therefore likely to blow out tires and destroy rims) type of hole. This is then followed by more holes (including damage out of the frame of this photo to the left). A situation tailor-made for losing control of a vehicle.
