YES round those homeless people up and kick them out of wake county !!!!!!!!!!

Just a note that these bathrooms are never locked at night. While convenient if you happen to be taking a walk or something, they should probably get locked by 9pm or so. Otherwise, homeless people can take shelter in them or they could become a place of other unfortunate actions, like a rape or drug use.

To the others, I think it is important to remember that homeless people are still just that--people. Many are aggressive and annoying panhandlers, but many are not. While their loitering can be unsightly and problematic in some places of downtown, we need to encourage the State, City, and County to add more services to make a positive impact and change in these people's lives. All of these services are underfunded, and temporary/section 8 housing has a wait list sometimes over a year long. Many are mentally ill and need help. Many want help and change but cannot get it. Some do get off the streets with help, which is what we all want. The Wilmington Street shelter has a memorial service every winter solstice for those who have passed away out in the cold, and it is very moving. Just please keep that in mind.

"Kicking homeless people out of Raleigh" is an embarrassing statement and will not solve the root issue. If the root cause of people being homeless is not addressed, more homeless people will fill the city after you "round them up and kick them out". This seems obvious to me.

This site is a heated facility that currently is open 24/7 and is cleaned contractually. We have spoken to the contractor about the conditions. We are working with our Park & Recreation-Facilities Division to find a solution for locking the doors electronically.

While the concentrations of the homeless are a concern, We do need to have facilities for their use. I know that they bathe and use the bathrooms at the Fresh Market at Cameron Village. And I have seen where they go between the buildings near downtown for bathroom use. Or even in the bushes sometimes. I think there need to be bathrooms for their use and places for bathing. Are there any innovative ways to help the homeless? I am very ignorant of the whole situation.

There are locations for them to bathe, use the bathroom, and get occasional meals. Salvation Army, the homeless shelter, two day centers right near downtown... There are places and no need for them to bother legitimate businesses and serve as a distraction.
