I hear you Viejito, We are having the same issues here in Tingly Ball field. There is an organized drug operation going on in. There is an "office" where the buyers/sellers hang out. Bike traffic is constant. There is at least one look out guy parked in the Ball field parking lot. There are three different cars pulling up, a guy gets out and visits the "office" and leaves shortly after. We have called 242-cops too many times. I just asked the City to send me the stats on how many times we have called. I began to make a list of the infected parks and found that people are afraid to name the parks near them! We have seen people shooting up as well as syringes all over the park. We are told that unless the Police actually witness the drug use they cannot take our word for it to factor it in to reasonable cause to search. I dont believe there is any reason why our accounts do not factor in or why drug sniffing dogs are not available.Our City Council voted to make the ART platform into a no loitering zone. When I called to ask if our parks can be made into no loitering zones I was told "that would be discrimination and then you wouldn't be able to loiter either". It is my understanding that the Mayor is able to make changes with regard to making areas a no loitering zone. I hand delivered a letter to our Mayors secretary outlining the horrible environment we are living in. I haven't heard backThe drug users have rights apparently, that super cede ours. It seems like our City leaders do not think this crisis is worth at least making it harder in some way for them. A two hour loitering limit would at least be a start. I dont understand that the drug disaster in this City has not been addressed. They all blab about it yet nothing is done. The City Council wasted time and our money to make the ART platform a no loitering zone but not we dont deserve the attention. I dont understand why the ART platform has been mandated a no loitering zone. As if it setting up a drug store in the middle of Central Ave would be a prime spot for selling drugs. I called Channel 7 thinking they would do a story on the Park problem and instead it turned out to be a sound bite. The news indicated that only three parks were affected. The ones I know are Tingly Ballpark, Robinson, Hazeldine, Wells, the park across the street from the Children's museum (dont know name) I wish that when I used the Next Door site I would have noted all the parks mentioned with drug activity. Its hard for me to understand why why people will not stand up for peace for themselves. Its no wonder why we have so much crime out in the open. Our tax money is used for open air drug stores.

One of the reasons I wrote here, in addition to calling APD, is so there is some kind of "paper trail." I think our neighborhood is easier to ignore than, say, a few blocks away near the Country Club. But Marcia, I know for a fact that many in our humble community are fed up and calling 242-COPS and writing on this SeeClickFix site. Speaking for myself, I have never seen it this bad. Not just because my property is getting targeted, but because the response when we voice our concerns is feeble at best.

Hello Viejito, I agree with everything you said. I love my living in Barelas and settled in here 18 years ago. I have never seen it this bad either. It makes me heartsick. I agree that if this were happening in an affluent part of town we would not be suffering with this. So far I have only had things stolen from my porch and the back gate was taken off the hinges. I have been told that it is useful to keep a paper trail also....I have been planning to take a trip to City Council. I think they have failed us to say the least. It is my understanding that there is an extreme amount of money in a NM fund of some sort, just sitting there. I will look into it. There is too much money not being spent in our communities to keep them safe and livable. I don't believe the story that there isn't enough money for more Police. It is my hope that I can gather up enough people to go to City Council with me to make our voices heard. I worked so hard making my old shot gun adobe into a home. I don't know if its ok to give you my email address on this site without it being broadcast. If not I hope we can continue to communicate. M

Thanks, Bob, for correcting my typo. I assure you I am well aware of the proper spelling of my neighborhood, but this site auto-corrected it to Reynolds. Also, on my property title it lists my location as the RAYNOLDS ADDITION, not Barelas. Trust me, I'd prefer Barelas. Thanks for your support regarding the issue at hand.
