I've referred this to our Housing and Environmental Division to check out. Will post an update when I hear back from them.

City Council granted Preservation North Carolina another 90 days at the January 4th, 2011 meeting to sell/relocate or come up with a solution for the building at 2 Ashe Avenue. There is an Ordinance requiring it to be demolished if this does not happen. This building is located behind the Hillsborough Street commercial building where the bar was. Inspection revealed the Ashe Avenue building to be secure last week. We will have staff to take another look at it today. We have also referred the issue of the commercial building to the permit division for their inspection. If it is not safe they will require improvements to be made.

We sent an inspector out...they determined that the building is secure as it stands and there are no signs of illegal entry or the possibility of that at the moment.

Thank you so much for the response and it is great to hear the city is already handling this matter. I have wondered about this site for an extended period of time as I often see our "well-known" area homeless drinking on the side of this old house.
