Growing homeless encampment Acknowledged5457-5481 Claremont Avenue Oakland, California - Fairview ParkThis encampment doubles in size each week. This morning there was a belligerent homeless person "batting" garbage with a stick at people and traffic. It's dangerous. If we do not address this it will grow into a whole homeless village like so many other places throughout Oakland. This is next to a park where children play!

Tree blocking street light Archived5422 Shafter Oakland, California - ShafterThere is a tree that is blocking the street light causing a very dark stretch of sidewalk. Last week there was a armed robbery in this stretch so the neighbors are eager t o get the tree trimmed. It's only a few branches that would need to be cut back.

Illegal Dumping Acknowledged475-499 Hudson Street Oakland, California - ShafterSomeone has put up a structure and is living under the freeway across from FROG Park where children are always playing. I've seen needles, bags and open signs of drug use. He has filled almost the entire block on Claremont under the freeway adjacent to him with carts full of belongings/garbage.

Pothole Archived30 Roanoke Road Berkeley, California - Berkeley
A significant sinkhole has recently developed on Roanoke Road. This is more than a mere pothole, of which there are many already on Roanoke Road - it is a significant hazard and safety issue. As one neighbor describes it:
"I've seen a few bikers almost fall of their bikes due to the combination of the steep hill and this very steep crater. Also, cars suddenly swerve onto the other side of the street to avoid it - but it's a somewhat curvy, hilly street and I've seen them almost swerve into oncoming traffic."

Illegal Dumping AcknowledgedClaremont Avenue And Hudson Oakland, California - ShafterFor over half a year now a garbage pile continues to grow and expand on Claremont Avenue under the Highway 24 overpass near Hudson Street. I understand that this started out as a shopping cart of homeless possessions, but now it is truly just one big garbage dump that spans over half a city block. This is directly across from Frog Park where neighborhood kids like to play. I don't understand why the city allows this to grow and refuses to do anything about it (I know of multiple neighbors that continue to call about this on a regular basis with no response). More recently, the garbage pile includes multiple full Waste Management garbage bins that were taken from Rockridge residents. As a neighborhood resident that pays a monthly fee for garbage pick up, this doesn't make sense. Maybe we should all stop paying Waste Management and just haul our garbage over to Claremont Avenue and add it to the pile....it would save us a lot of money and it appears that the city is okay with this. Why can't we do better Oakland? Please respond and clean up this health hazard.

Traffic Safety (non-emergency) Acknowledged453 59th St Oakland, CA, 94609, USA - Fairview Park
The open issue remains on the intersection of Hermann and 58th and Vicente and 58th. At both of these intersections speeding motorists are a problem and the dogleg in the roadway make visibility and crossings difficult for school children. We (the neighbors and I) would like work with the City to identify pedestrian safety solutions for this stretch. Please let me know how best to proceed.

Crosswalk Needed at 57th Street and Telegraph Acknowledged57th Street And Telegraph Avenue Oakland, California - Fairview Park
57th Street is a popular foot transit corridor connecting Idora Park and Bushrod neighborhoods to Claremont Ave. and Rockridge. Particularly during commuting hours, many residents from West of Telegraph cross at 57th Street in order to access AC transit and casual carpool on Claremont Ave., Rockridge BART, and the Rockridge shopping district. While there are currently crosswalks on Aileen Street and 58th Street, on a daily basis I witness adults, seniors, children, and bicyclists dodge four lanes of traffic across Telegraph at 57th. This is often extremely dangerous -- I've personally witnessed many near-accidents. A crosswalk is needed at this busy intersection.
The city's crosswalk decision matrix recommends marked crosswalks be installed when there is a gap between existing crosswalks of 900 feet or more. The existing gap between the marked crosswalks at Aileen at Telegraph and 58th at Telegraph is over 1,000 feet.
As such, I am requesting that a new crosswalk be striped across Telegraph at 57th Street.
