This is a grudge complaint from somebody who may have experienced a minor inconvenience and is taking it out on his or her neighbor. Close this non-issue already.

How is reporting illegal double parking in the bike lane a "grudge offense"? Just because it happens all the time in Oakland doesn't make it okay. I'm sure you would feel the same way if people started parking their bikes in the middle of the travel lane.

If Burma Superstar needs a loading zone, they should ask the city for a loading zone. Until then, they should get tickets for double parking. Not too complicated.

It's illegal to ride a bike on the sidewalk too. Why don't you report that?

This is not a one-time thing. Burma Stupidstar has made blocking the bike lane part of their regular business practice. I don't care if they charge $10 for their lettuce cups—they don't get to take over the bike lane. That's public property.

The sidewalk is also public property, and most cyclists (of whom I am one) must walk their bikes. To quote the Oakland municipal code, "No person shall ride a bicycle which has wheels of twenty (20) inches or greater in diameter or a frame of fourteen (14) inches or greater in length on any sidewalk within the city."

No one was riding a bike on the sidewalk.

1) Sidewalk cycling is illegal in Oakland, but has nothing to do with this report.
2) Perhaps if there were fewer cars parked in the bike lanes more people would be willing, or able, to bike in the street.
3) If you think biking on the sidewalk is akin to double parking in the bike lane, and you are suggesting that sidewalk cyclists be ticketed, then why are you then opposed to ticketing double parkers?
4) Off-topic trolling is the domain of Youtube comments, not SeeClickFix reports. If you don't like a report then don't vote for it. If you want sidewalk cyclists to be ticketed you can report that yourself. That's how this site works.

It's not off-topic to compare unenforced (or unenforceable) laws. The fact is that both activities are so transitory that it's a waste of time and effort to report them to SeeClickFix.

It's not a waste of my time to report this business's obstruction of the bike lane. My goal is to have them ticketed until they stop.

Double parking isn't any more unenforceable than any of Oakland's other parking laws for which the city doesn't seem to have any problem ticketing. And a habitual double parker that uses the same spot almost every day is hardly transitory. If this happened just once or twice I doubt Herbert Marcuse would have bothered reporting it.

Again, if you don't agree with the issue don't vote on it. No other action or input is required.

Do I think Herbert Marcuse reporting the same issue over and over again is particularly helpful? Not really. But the solution is for the double parkers to stop double parking, not for Herbert to stop reporting it when it happens.

I report the issue repeatedly because it happens repeatedly. My goal is to enlist Parking Enforcement and gain some compliance. I'll stop reporting the issue when it stops happening.
