Can't even count the number of time's i've almost been hit there. Twice i've had to stop short and fell onto their car. Pedestrian's can't see cars coming and the cars don't care. Especially around thanksgiving. No one stops at the stop sign, they just roll straight through to the street and only look for cars from their left.
Something needs to be done to increase drivers' awareness of pedestrians as they leave the garage. The mirrors and signs I don't think are sufficient. Need to open up line of sight.
The problems is not the mirrors or signs, it’s the drivers who don't stop at the stop sign. I note daily the drivers who don't stop until they are at the street. Put a hard speed bump at the stop sign. This will hopefully resolve the issue.
I think the stop sign is on private property. I asked a police officer acquaintance about this:
"They do not carry the same legal weight or consequences as a stop sign on a public road. The police dept has no power to enforce those signs. The only time I think there would be repercussions for failing to stop would be if that action caused an accident and then it would be up to the insurance company to assign fault. Unless of course there are injuries and in that case the police would get involved and document the incident. "
