Description
While the sidewalks have been shoveled, they are inaccessible to and from the street because of high snow piles on the corners. This is on a block with a K-2 Elementary School, and the commute to school was made very difficult by the lack of access.

Why would documenting the issue be problematic? Doesn't that make it more likely to be fixed.
There is no harm by reporting issues here especially if there are people who need a way to find out how to help. If you are going to use SCF for heckling users you will be blocked from the site and your content will be removed.
Please remain respectful.

Most of us use this site to help the public resolve issues. Please respect the fact that issues are "fixed" because of this site.
Issues are not resolved by smug comments

ummmm....
To the person who copped my handle and tried to insult me....
My opinion is that if you own a house in this city, its your legal and social obligation to either clear snow from your walk, or hire somebody to do it. It means a lot to little kids going to school and to elderly who need groceries and medicine. If my opinion is disgraceful, so be it.

Anonymous,
Can you specify which K-2 elementary school? I am happy to make a call to be sure it is cleared by the Board of Ed.

Anonymous,
I just saw your address as Livingston St. I assume you are talking about "Little Hooker". Please Confirm.

EFFECTIVE JEFFREY and JESS,
Many hands make light work. I agree that people can get out and help others but its unreasonable to expect somebody walking their kid several blocks to school to clear their own path. People on the corner or the block should take care of it.
YALE/ACLUWATCHER,
Matt was out in the middle of the night knocking on doors to try and get the streets plowable. I'll take that over your cynical, balkanized version of neighbor.

Jeffery,
It can take an hour to shovel out a corner. What is wrong with taking 30 seconds to take a photo to let someone who might have time know that there is something that needs to be fixed?
Please keep comments on topic and not accusatory or they will be removed.

YALE/ACLUWATCHER,
Let me take it down a notch because I think we both want the same thing, a nice place to live. This is why I think its necessary for people to report lack of sidewalk care (as is mandated by law).
I want you to imagine for a moment that you have an elderly relative who has slowed down in her old age and she lives in a neighborhood like ours; doesn't own a car; walks to church, pharmacy and grocery, and to visit friends. Now I want you to imagine that she goes out in the winter a few days after a snow storm and for the most part can get to some of the places she wants to go, but finds one impassable sidewalk and no route out and around through the street. So she tries to walk it but slips and breaks her hip (elderly women often have osteoporosis and weak bones). This happens to 300,000 Americans annually and its very bad because a lot of complicated stuff happens in your hips; major blood flow; nerve bundles; lots of connective tissue, etc. So your elderly relative goes for surgery but it doesn't go so well and she declines in health over a long period of time in which you and your family are strapped to provide adequate health care and just the basic daily necessities that your elderly relative can't provide for herself because she is immobilized and highly medicated. When she passes away it is universally described by your family as being "for the best" but it somehow doesn't seem like the best.
This happened to my family and other families and because of that I have a very VERY low tolerance for people who don't shovel their walks and have no problem whatsoever reporting them on this website or calling down to the city for ticketing.

I just shoveled out three corners reported on SCF

EFFECTIVEJEFFREY,
So let me get this straight...you're trying to shame SCF reporters into doing the job that people on their own blocks should be ashamed for not doing?
Not so effective.

Hi Matt,
Yes, this is close to the K-2 Worthington Hooker building. If you could talk to the Board of Ed. that would be great, thank you.

EFFECTIVEJEFFERY,
I'll try again...So let me get this straight...you're spending lots of time on SCF criticizing people for spending too much time on SCF?
robn (Utilisateur inscrit)
EFFECTIVEJEFFERY,
Whats apparent is that I'm criticising bad behavior...you're criticising the forum itself. Not so effective you.
