The gas lanterns in and lining Brooke Street Park and the Town Green are maintained by our Department of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Services. Park staff has been notified and will be out this morning to relight this lantern and check the others.
The lanterns have a small hole that vents the lantern and also allows access to light them. From time to time, especially when we have windy conditions, that hole allows enough of a breeze to get into the lantern head to blow out the flame. The good news is, while you will likely smell the natural gas when that happens, there is not enough natural gas in the air to create a risk.
Six of the eight light that are out were relit and the wind has already blown out two of those! Two lanterns will not light and the gas is off to those two. As soon as the wind dies down staff will try again.
