  These are handled in the order they are received by one of our last 2 p/t Police Cadets. They are working on more than 2,000 requests so it will take some time. Thank you for your patience.

  I wonder why the COV has only two part time cadets working on this massive project? It's not spending tax dollars on more police officers or for paving the city streets. Saw on the news a week ago that the city managed to tow 17 cars. That's 17 out of 2,000 requests. Not much progress. The car I reported last November is still sitting in the same spot, but now it's stuffed with junk. Everyone living on our block would love to see it go, but there's no help coming.

  Well, they only have 2, (now 1) p/t Cadets assigned to Traffic because they cannot find anyone to apply for the open positions. Police agencies throughout the State and Country are struggling to find people to work at the Police Departments. Many agencies have even gone to offering 30-60k signing bonuses to Officers employed at other agencies to come work for them.

  The Chief Ta has authorized O/T for several Officers/Police Assistants to work one day a month on an abandoned tow sweep. Last month was the first one and they checked on more than 100 abandoned vehicles from SeeClickFix, most were found to be gone, or unfounded, 17 were towed and several were tagged with a 72hr notice. We're doing what we can with the staffing levels we have. Chief Ta has authorized another abandoned tow sweep this month. Thank you for your patience.

  Spring is here and the sky is blue and birds are singing and our neighborhood abandoned car is composting on the streets of Vallejo. It's been nearly five months since we reported it abandoned on November 12, 2023. We just wondered if that one part-time cadet is still working on these abandoned car sweeps, and where the sweep team might sweep next? Is there a schedule or a plan? We saw pink tags on abandoned cars at Maine and Marin Streets, so they must have passed through there last month. It's sad when citizens are asked to be patient and understanding with the COV when the COV isn't patient or understanding when they want something from us--like city taxes. Our local sales tax went up thanks to Measure P. The extra cash it generated was supposed to make things better in Vallejo. Are we better off than we were last year? Hope springeth eternal.

  If you know anyone that wants to work for the City as a Police Cadet (p/t college student) or Police Assistant (f/t) please have them contact HR at City Hall. We need the help, but are struggling to find folks interested in working in law enforcement like most other communities in California.

  Just a suggestion: if the COV could collect and sell all the abandoned cars in Vallejo for scrap or at auction, it might earn enough money for a full time position instead of a part time. I realize it's a catch 22--who's going to handle the logistics of finding, cataloging, and selling scrap cars that will pay for the full time position?
