Description
All day long, people of all ages and backgrounds "jaywalk" across this block of Chapel Street, between State and Orange. Effective urban design should follow popular demand. The people clearly want to cross here, let's make it SAFE.

From the Urban Street Design Guide (USDG), published by National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO):
---------------------
"Midblock crosswalks facilitate crossings to places that people want to go but that are not well served by the existing traffic network. These pedestrian crossings...have historically been overlooked or difficult to access, creating unsafe or unpredictable situations for both pedestrians and vehicles.
Designers should study both existing and projected pedestrian volumes in assessing warrants for midblock crossings to account for latent demand."

Apathy is new haven (Guest)
Zbeat- just give up like everyone else in this city- I could keep posting pictures of the same thing on Elm Street (near High) where hundreds of Yalies do this EVERY DAY as well as all the double parked trucks that never get tickets. A crosswalk has been requested there for over 30 years and what do you see.
