For the Eglinton LRT construction, almost all of the trees in front of 13 Division police station were removed. A couple of stressed out trees remain, but the City is not ensuring that they are protected with a Tree Protection Zone, like they make most other construction sites do. Is this a double standard? These trees are unlikely to survive, being bumped by heavy equipment on a regular basis.

One month later -- still no action or response from City officials. Do they look the other way when it comes to the LRT construction?

Toronto Urban Forestry department would come down hard on any homeowner who dared damage a tree on their own property like this. Want to rebuild a house? You have to erect a large protective zone around the trees that might be affected. But for the LRT construction zone, apparently the rules don't apply.

I talked to Metrolinx, which is responsible for the construction, and Toronto urban forestry, and wrote about it last summer. Metrolinx told me they'd follow whatever orders/instructions that came their way from urban forestry. If someone has decided those treees don't require protection, I can't make them do anything more.

Although much of the construction around this area has moved to the east, the damaged tree remains. Yet, the City chooses to do nothing about this tree, so the issue might as well be closed.
