I'm not sure what private company put it there but wherever it came from, that property owner nor the tree company sure didn't care that they dumped it on my property while I was gone. I didn't give permission for it to be put there. There are large medians it could have been placed in that are exclusively city property and not adjacent to anyone's home. Both the company and the city have left it to be my problem, as well as the large one just leaning over on Fauquier. If clean up doesn't happen by the end if August I'll get local media involved. I don't care who is responsible, it needs to go.

The VCU research sign was from someone who wanted to do a stud on a slice, but it was too much to cut through and they gave up.

I encourage all neighbors to email the councilman about this to let him know how many folks would like to see this taken care of. I'm not trying to around rude, but Ive reported this many times and never received any response other than from one city official stating that I reported the wrong address. Just ridiculous that I can't be acknowledged by a real person in any meaningful way.

IS this in the strip between the sidewalk and street? if so it is on city property as that is part of the city right of way. If true timber did take this tree and drop it there, then they are responsible to remove it.

Yes, on city property right next to my property. My point is it could have been placed in the median instead of beside my plot.

I have seen the tree, I don't think they have a crane that large and if they were going to move it they would have taken it.

Yes, it's time for the city to send out a crew with chainsaws to cut it up and remove it.

You just aren't getting it, if the tree came off of private property and was moved to its present location by a private contractor, then it is said contractors responsibility to remove said tree, not the City.

As well this tree has been reported numerous times by others.

You can claim it was put there by a private company, but I didn't see who put it there, and it is the city's responsibility to either track down the company if they really want to, or remove it. It is indeed on city property, so now they have to do something about it. Unless you can prove who put it there and feel like going to whatever homeowner to ask them to follow up with their company, I will continue to petition the city instead of engaging in hearsay about which company did what from which house. If I do that, it will continue to be ignored. If you'd like to contact the tree company or homeowner instead of claiming the city doesn't have to do anything, be my guest. But my mission is to have the tree removed.

Until the city tells me flat out they refuse to do anything, I'll continue to ask that it be removed.

Wasn't this tree one that fell in the road?

We too saw the big crane… And yes, it fell on city property and was moved quickly to get us power again...the city had help from this crane company.

The city should coordinate cutting the street as well as the one on the sidewalk on Fauquier. I'm not sure a ticket has been made for the one but it pulled up the sidewalk, curb and gutter and part of the road ... when it rains the water is impeded and becomes a stinky swamp.

Pete I understand your frustration. However, since you are getting no where with the city, I don't understand your reluctance to check with some of your neighbors. There were many of us out there watching this tree being dismantled. This tree was craned over from a backyard two doors down from Nottoway Just trying to help you out.

Thanks Janet, I have talked folks right around here, and just like this post, I get conflicting stories about the tree company acting on behalf of the city, acting as a private contractor, etc... and I've determined I am truly more likely to get the city to do something than a private company. If someone is willing to tell me the property where it came from, I'll certainly go and talk to them, but of the neighbors I have talked to, without reluctance, no one can tell me for sure which house it came from. In addition, the pile next to the tree has been there just as long, is the city's responsibility, and also hasn't been fully acknowledged. However, I do have a message in with the one company that was mentioned to see if they can shed some light. Hopefully it will all be resolved soon, I appreciate the input and discussion. I'll try all avenues to get it cleaned up.

Update! True timber moved it from the alleyway for the city. The city stated to them they would remove it.

Ok, I know the city is very aware of the problems near this intersection, and I've been acknowledged by a real person. But we still have no action and no idea when they plan to do anything with any of the multitude of problems centered around this area. I just can't believe we are about to hit 2 months with nothing done.

On Wed August 10, from 6 - 8 PM, Chris Hilbert will hold a meeting at Holton Elementary to discuss the City's storm recovery plans for Bellevue and G.P. I suggest you bring this issue (and any others relating to this storm) to this meeting.

Thanks for letting me know about the meeting. Unfortunately, I will be working during that time. I am hoping another neighbor can bring up the pile and the tree for me.

Did anyone attend the meeting? I haven't found anyone who can give me any info. I feel like whatever was told at that meeting should be disseminated publicly. I'm extremely disappointed with the lack of any response from the city to me. All I want is some kind of timeline as to when they will work on this large pile and large tree. No one can tell me anything at all.

I attended the meeting on Wed, and I can tell you that this tree, and the large one nearby on Faquier Ave were discussed in detail. The City requested someone familiar with this specific tree provide the name of the contractor that placed it there, and that they would contact the contractor to have it removed. City confirmed that if your tree company places your thee in the city's ROW instead of removing and disposing of it, then it's the contractor's responsibility to dispose of it.

I'm in touch with True Timber. I'll let them know what was said at the meeting. I'll have to get the name of the company that dumped large debris on the pile.

Thanks for following up, Odin's Dad. It is much appreciated. If the city won't act unit the large dumped materials are removed by the contractors, that is who I will now annoy the crap out of until it's done. I appreciate everyone's tolerance of my tantrum, living next to this pile is not fun, and my main way to relax and blow off steam is to enjoy my back yard or balcony, where I have a wonderful view of this huge trash pile.

There also seems to be a honey bee nest living in the pile now. I've seen them swarming around from walks. If you're able to talk to the company who cleans it up, it may be worth giving them a heads up in case someone is allergic...

Pete, I wasn't able to attend the meeting but a summary was sent out on the yahoo group 'BellevueNeighborhood' as well as the nextdoor.com group I think. Also, check with your immediate next door neighbor 'and a couple doors down regarding the tree company who put the additional large stumps on that pile. Tree work from those backyards was done a few weeks ago and the trunk pieces appeared immediately after on the large pile. I don't recall the name of the company but was walking dogs near there while they worked.

Both companies have been contacted and say they will pick up what they dumped. In addition, a local beekeeping chapter will attempt to move the hive this wednesday evening in order to save them. It is a very large hive and worth saving.

Update, True Timber is here removing the large tree piece today. They were very responsive when I reached out to them. One of the guys just told me the tree weighs almost 20,000 lbs and they will still need a crane even after cutting it into smaller pieces.

Large tree is gone, and this evening the city showed up with multiple dump trucks and a backhoe. They even helped the beekeepers move the hive. They will return to finish off the pile. Today was a good, positive day all around. Thanks to the workers for helping with the hive.

The pile is gone! The beekeepers installed a box for the leftover bees to make a new hive so they can move them as well. The saga is over. Thanks to the city for cleaning up, and for the many suggestions on the way to getting there.

It looks like the large tree was moved to the corner of Faquier and Stanhope... At least a similar looking large tree was there yesterday morning.

I watched them cut it into pieces and use a small crane to put it in a dump truck, so probably not the same tree or company.

This ticket is closed in the City's Work Order system.
