Due to the recent inclement weather, the Town of Hamden Public Works & Parks Director Craig Cesare has ordered the closure of the Farmington Canal Linear Park from the Dixwell Avenue Overpass to Skiff Street until further notice. Tree damage, limb clearing, and flooding have attributed to this decision for the good of public safety. The Town will update this notification when conditions on the Canal Trail have improved, and the well-being of the public can be assured to reopen the Trail section.

Thank You for your quick response. Please be advised this route is one of the few safe route for me to get myself and other disabled veterans to/from and as a part of adaptive cycling events. Alternative routes add significant distance, climb, or unsafe routes to bypass the area. Immediate responsible action to reopen the route is politely requested as this is the only route in area with this long of continuous off-road cycling infrastructure.

Public Works and Engineering were on the site this morning and are working to remove the blockages which are causing the flooding. It may take us some time, the trees that are down are hard to get to and are fairly large. We are working on the solution now.
