Description
Now, we have 2 fires burning on the harbor, there is so much smoke you can smell it inside the building. It’s dry and windy outside which makes for further fire problems.
There are also larger groups gathering.

How would you like it if your house was burning and someone reported it on See Click Fix?

Just to clear the air again.. this is an ongoing trash issue.. people fish here and leave tremendous amounts of trash behind. As a community WE have cleaned the trash up, now with Covid 19 it’s more repugnant to pick up someone’s half eaten dinner, beer cans or snips..
There is a restriction on large gatherings, along with fishing in a restricted area, leaving trash behind, now there are large groups.. so yes it’s a big issue.

One thing I’d like to say is whether or not this should’ve been posted here, there’s been a great response from our community, mostly supportive and helpful. So thank you!!
I for one would like to see this community pull together and create a safe and beautiful place that I know it can be. This area has great potential as does the rest of the city.

Thank you for calling but it would have best if you called as soon as you saw this because you knew the situation and would have been able to answer any questions the city may have had. After calling you can post to alert others and to have a record it was called in. Also it would get the community involved.

I don’t know what your issue is.. the picture posted here is a fire that was either just put out, or was smoldering. There was no need to call. What got my attention was the incredible amount of smoke I could smell on Sea st. The closer I got to my unit the area was dense with smoke and coming into our building.I posted it because this is happening on a regular basis on the harbor your comments are counterproductive in getting the neighborhood alerted to the misuse and abuse of public property.
WHEN the fire became active I called the police department for direction,

Rick: Thanks for reporting and taking the initiative!!

The entire City is a real dump. There is no enforcement, and it's politically incorrect to talk about it. Edgewood Park in my area is a complete mess. People drop garbage even though garbage cans are a few feet away. It's done deliberately and people get away with it bc New Haven has no enforcement.

I think we have to take the initiative and be consistent to change the city. I’m not interested in political correctness, I’m interested in restoring New Haven. There are pockets of areas that are working toward doing that, unfortunately it’s not consistent.

This concern has prompted a cross-departmental focus on this area and the city is looking into ways to address the gatherings and clean up the mess.
We strongly encourage everyone to check out the city’s crisis hub at https://covid19.newhavenct.gov/ where you’ll find all current information about COVID-19 in New Haven.
